Step 2: Define Your Research Objective

2 minutes

This is the most important step. A clear objective helps AI create focused, relevant questions that get you actionable insights.

Example Objectives (choose one or create your own):

🛒 E-commerce Customer Journey
"I want to learn about customer shopping behavior on my e-commerce website, understand where they drop off, and identify what would make them more likely to complete purchases."
💼 Employee Experience
"I want to understand employee satisfaction with our remote work tools, identify productivity challenges, and learn what support would help them work more effectively."
2.1

Write Your Objective: In the objective field, clearly describe what you want to learn. Use the examples above or create your own focused research goal.

2.2

Add Context (Optional): Include any specific areas you want to explore or avoid. For example: "Focus on the checkout process, avoid questions about account setup"

2.3

Continue to Step 2: Click "Next: Select Personas" to move to persona selection

Step 3: Choose Target Personas (Optional)

2 minutes

Personas help create more targeted interview questions. You can use existing personas or skip this step for general interviews.

🎯 Use Existing Personas (Recommended)

If you have persona collections, select 1-3 personas that represent your target interview participants. This creates more focused, relevant questions.

Example: Select "Tech-Savvy Millennial" and "Security-Conscious Professional" personas for mobile banking app research.

⚡ Skip Personas (Beginner-Friendly)

For your first interview, you can skip persona selection. The AI will create general questions suitable for any participant.

Benefit: Simpler setup, broadly applicable questions, good for exploratory research.
3.1

Choose Your Approach: For your first interview, click "Skip Persona Selection" to keep things simple

3.2

Continue: Click "Next: Knowledge Integration" to proceed to the next step

📚 For Your Next Interview: Try creating personas first using the Persona Generation Tutorial for more targeted research questions.

Step 4: Add Knowledge Context (Optional)

1 minute

Knowledge bases can enhance your interviews with evidence-based questions. For this first tutorial, we'll skip this step to keep it simple.

🧠 How Knowledge Integration Works:

If you had uploaded documents about your mobile app (user feedback, support tickets, analytics reports), the AI interviewer could reference these to ask informed questions like:

"I noticed in your support data that many users report issues with the transfer feature. Can you tell me about your experience with transferring money?"
4.1

Skip for Now: Click "Skip Knowledge Integration" to proceed without document enhancement

4.2

Continue: Click "Next: Review Questions" to see your generated interview

🚀 Pro Tip: After this tutorial, try the Knowledge Base Tutorial to learn how document integration can make your interviews more intelligent and contextual.

Step 5: Review & Customize Questions

3 minutes

The AI has generated interview questions based on your objective. Review them and make any adjustments before generating the final interview.

📝 Sample Generated Questions:

Q1
"Can you tell me about the last time you used your mobile banking app? What were you trying to accomplish?"
Opening Question - Broad Context
Q2
"How easy or difficult was it to find what you were looking for in the app?"
Follow-up Question - User Experience
Q3
"If you could change one thing about the app to make your experience better, what would it be?"
Improvement Question - Actionable Insights

✏️ Customization Options:

  • Edit Questions: Click any question to modify the wording or focus
  • Add Questions: Use the "+ Add Question" button to include specific topics
  • Remove Questions: Delete questions that aren't relevant to your research
  • Reorder Questions: Drag questions to change the interview flow
  • Set Question Types: Mark questions as opening, follow-up, or closing questions
5.1

Review Generated Questions: Read through the 12-15 questions AI created. They should align with your research objective.

5.2

Make Light Edits: For your first interview, make minimal changes. Just ensure questions feel appropriate for your research.

5.3

Set Interview Name: Give your interview a descriptive name like "Mobile App Experience - User Feedback Interview"
